Braces are intended to help you create a Hollywood smile. However, for some people, they can cause a great deal of pain. The pain is often associated with the pulling and re-alignment of teeth. Nevertheless, more frequently orthodontist are hearing their patients complain about migraine headaches. It is a known fact that braces can cause TMJ or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. TMJ is one of the main causes of migraine headaches.
The brace wires can cause your teeth to shift backwards and this puts unnecessary pressure on the Temporomandibular joint. The Temporomandibular joint is nothing but tendons, bones and muscle. This joint is very complex and when all is working correctly, one shouldn’t hear any popping or clicking in their jaw line.
It is common that the pain will only be felt initially when someone has the braces put on, or after an adjustment. Others report that the rubber bands used to help cure a misalignment, are the cause of their migraines and dizziness.
There are several options available for braces and some different styles might overt the migraines. Some might ask why they would choose to put themselves through this pain when there are snap on smile teeth, readily available. The downside is this option is not available for everyone. Due to the state of the misalignment it may be only possible for one to have traditional style braces.
The good news is there are several kinds of braces on the market today. The different brace styles are traditional metal, ceramic, Invisalign, and Linear. However, invisible lingual braces cost a great deal more than traditional styles and some say they are a level of pain all of their own.
Whichever path one chooses, there is one thing for sure; there will be some sort of pain associated with the moving and re-alignment of teeth. While some may choose to go for the less invasive route using Invisalign, there still will be some pain involved. After all, teeth are secured into a socket and moving them around is going to hurt.
